What happens when you are asleep?
What makes it a good story.
  • It has good detail because in the second paragraph it has list of all the things people might do when they are asleep.
  • It has words like firstly, secondly and finally.
  • It has one main idea per paragraph.
  • It has good adjectives, adverbs and verbs like instantly wake up and grind their teeth.

What Happens When You Are Asleep?
Firstly some people may grind their teeth, suck their thumbs, sleep walk, sleep talk, snore, and pedal their legs. It’s all very embarrassing but you don’t have to worry because it’s all part of life and every one does one or two of them. They will grow out of it.

Secondly your body slows down, your mouth stops making saliva, your heart beats slower, and your breathing slows downs.

As well as that when you sleep you can hear what is going on around you. You would be able to hear the alarm clock or, if you’re like my mother, a baby crying. If you hear anything unusual you would instantly wake up.

Finally while you are sleeping you also dream. Dreaming is when your have a long vision in your head while you are asleep. Nobody knows what their dreams mean. Some people sit with tape recorders and notebooks on their bedside tables. I don’t think our dreams mean anything. They are just there to keep us busy while we are asleep. This is what happens when we are asleep.

Main Ideas:

  1. What some people do when they are asleep.
  2. Your body slows down.
  3. If you hear anything unusual you instantly wake up.
  4. When you sleep you dream.

My Summary:

So when you find that your body slows down, you suddenly wake up or you dream don't worry, it happens to everyone.

Irene Van Dyk

WALT: Explain
Personal WALT: Paragraphs have specific detail and examples.

Irene Van Dyk is a famous netball player. She plays for the Bay of plenty Magic and the Silver Ferns. Who are the Silver Ferns? Well I’ll tell you. The Silver Ferns are the netball team that represent New Zealand. Anyway back to Irene Van Dyk: she is not only a netball player but also she is a primary school teacher. Now since Irene is a Silver Fern you would think she was born in New Zealand, but she wasn’t, she was born in South Africa.

Irene Van Dyk has long straight hair, which is blonde, and she has blue eyes. Irene was born on the 21 of June 1972. She was not born in New Zealand, she was born in South Africa. She moved to New Zealand in 2000 and now lives in Wellington with her husband Christie and her daughter Bianca. She has 1 sister and 2 brothers.

Irene has played netball since she was 9 years old. She made her debut for the South African national side in 1994 and went on to captain the side and represent them a total of 72 times. She now plays for the Bay of Plenty Magic and also plays for the greatest netball team: the Silver Ferns.

Irene started playing for the Silver Ferns in 2000 when she came to New Zealand. She won the Halberg Award as New Zealand Sportswoman of the year in 2003 and was nominated again in 2005, that is a really big achievement for Irene Van Dyk.

She has played lots of games for the Silver Ferns as well as for the Bay of Plenty Magic. She achieved her 100th test match on the 23 September 2009 in the second test match against the Australian Diamonds (the Australian Diamonds are the netball team that represent Australia). The Australian Diamonds also are a big competition for the Silver Ferns.

So Irene Van Dyk is a very important and successful team member of New Zealand. I think it’s really cool how she came from South Africa and came to New Zealand and now plays for the Silver Ferns because she is a really good shooter.
